Real Weddings: Clare & Natalie's Elopement

Clare and Natalie contacted us during lockdown to enquire about eloping in September 2020.

“We always dreamed that our wedding day would be intimate and cosy… Covid gave us a great excuse to achieve that by eloping! We wanted a venue with plenty of character, beautiful gardens and scrummy food.. a quick search on Google for elopement weddings during lockdown found us this gem of a place!”

THE ENGAGEMENT

Clare & Natalie met at school in the mid naughties. They remained close throughout school and university but eventually realised their feelings were deeper than just friends! Little did they think back then that they would end up marrying each other!

Natalie tells us “Clare was the one to actually propose even though we’d openly chatted about it. The day started with a mystery trip out whereby we visited various places in which we’d lived together with the final stop being outside the school gates where we’d first met.

The girls were engaged for just over a year before they decided to elope..

CHOOSING AN ELOPEMENT

“The simplicity of eloping was so appealing to us and the elopement package at Berwick Lodge included everything we wanted, making it stress free! Our wedding coordinator Simone made the process so easy and the whole day ran seamlessly. We didn’t have to think of anything, leaving us to simply enjoy every part of the day. The only worry was the chance of the registrar going down with coronavirus!”

One of Clare & Natalie’s highlights was the food “What’s not to love about a six course tasting menu? Each course was simply fantastic (not only to eat, but also to look at!) and the chef created a delicious vegetarian menu which was simply perfect for our wedding day… especially as we didn’t need to fit into our dresses again afterwards!”

THE DRESSES

“We always knew we weren’t going to go for traditional white wedding dresses so hitting the high street was perfect for us. Turns out we were spoilt for choice so would definitely recommend to others!"

TOP TIP

We asked the girls what tip they would offer other couples organising an elopement wedding.

“Remind yourselves that it is all about just the two of you. We found it easiest by focusing solely on us and choosing things important to us. Local suppliers were great as it was easy and quicker to make decisions. One big tip – choose an elopement package at Berwick Lodge!”

PHOTOGRAPHY

The gardens were another reason the girls chose Berwick. “They simply provided such beautiful backdrops for our photographs.” Clare & Natalie used their own photographer, Christy Blanch, to capture moments on their special day. “We absolutely love the photos by Christy! We are so pleased with them, they are amazing!”
