Brightly coloured Dr Marten boots are not quite what everyone may expect to be greeted with when they enter a fine dining luxury hotel – but Berwick’s owner and Hotel Manager Sarah Arikan, has created quite a following with her choice of footwear!

Sarah and her husband Fevzi have invested their hearts and souls into the development of Berwick Lodge which they bought in 2004 as a run down and unloved old manor house.  They spent five years of their time and money restoring the property, with the aim of fulfilling their vision to create a warm and welcoming, luxurious hotel and fine dining restaurant, unlike anything else in the South West.

Juggling the care of three young children and running the hotel has become Sarah’s life since Berwick opened in 2009 and she describes her Dr Martens as her ‘life savers’. “I’m on my feet pretty much all day and they are incredibly comfortable.  I can see some guests look a little surprised when they first visit us and they notice my feet! But our regular guests now look forward to seeing what colour I’ll be wearing when they arrive.  They are a bit quirky I guess, but I think that sums up whole our approach at Berwick – providing our guests with something extraordinary!”
