Bristol Monopoly Big Reveal

The MONOPOLY: Bristol Edition 'Big Reveal'.

Pass GO and collect the brand-new official MONOPOLY: Bristol Edition game, which has been launched today.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Bristol was getting its new official version of the world’s most popular family board game, 23 years after first ‘Passing GO’.

Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol - who encouraged Bristolians to suggest their favourite landmarks and charities to feature on the board when the announcement of the new game was made earlier in the year – says: “There’s been such enthusiasm for a new Bristol Edition of MONOPOLY, celebrating our great city. Like many Bristolians, I’m excited to see which locations the MONOPOLY team have picked to be on the board!”

The now-revealed-board hosts an array of wonderful Bristol establishments – from the Clifton College to the Brunel’s SS Great Britain; The University of Bristol to Bristol Airport; and Hargreaves Lansdown to Berwick Lodge - and around 25 other top Bristol landmarks and organisations!

“I have, as I’m sure most of you have, very fond memories of playing monopoly. As a Bristolian myself, I am so incredibly proud to be part of the Bristol community and when the opportunity arose to be part of the iconic Bristol monopoly board, myself, and the whole team, were just so excited”. Says Sarah, owner and general manager of Berwick Lodge.

The game is themed in sets - from shopping to leisure, entertainment to education - and more. The Clifton Suspension Bridge gets to land on the top ‘Mayfair’ spot from the classic MONOPOLY original, whilst College Green takes up occupancy on ‘Old Kent Road’ at the other end of the board.

John Keen-Tomlinson at Winning Moves UK, who is producing the board, under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company noted that “This is a new game for a new generation,” and he couldn’t be more right! Berwick Lodge itself features on a yellow square - very proudly alongside Bristol Pride (what an honour!) – and unlike the previous Bristol board, three charities also get to ‘Pass GO’ on this edition, following a public vote: The Grand Appeal, Bristol Animal Rescue Centre and Empire Fighting Chance. “It is truly wonderful that these amazing groups can sing about Bristol’s diverse society and that this gives them a platform to showcase the difference they are making to our inclusive city…” says Sarah.

“…As an independent business, we are constantly trying to connect with others and support local businesses and the whole of the Bristol economy. We do our best every day to promote, push and advocate for Bristol and all that is good within it. We are waiving the Bristol banner, and shouting from the rooftops to ensure Bristol is appreciated worldwide. Although there are many friends featured, we are so excited to grow our connections further within the community and beyond, and we can’t wait to welcome more people to Bristol and grow our Berwick (& Bristol) family!”

MONOPOLY: Bristol Edition is for sale now at Waterstones, WHSmith, Ryman and Bristol Museums’ shops. The game is also extensively available online, including at Booghe.co.uk, Amazon.co.uk and shop.bristolmuseums.org.uk
